This annual preschool multilingual song competition spans four categories — Hoklo (Taiwanese), Hakka, Indigenous languages, and English — encouraging teachers and children at public and private preschools citywide to write original songs in local languages and submit them on video. An annual multilingual stage

Every school year, the Education Department, New Taipei City Government hosts 新北幼幼歡樂多語影音秀, inviting children from public and private preschools across the city to write songs in Hoklo, Hakka, an Indigenous language, or English, and submit them on video. It’s more than a competition — it’s an important initiative for local-language education, bringing these languages to life in everyday settings.

But running a city-wide annual event well takes more than official memos and paper registration forms. It needed a digital platform where teachers could register online, where parents and the public could see the children’s work, where judges had a system to score entries, and where the popularity award could be voted on fairly.

The event runs in four categories — Hoklo, Hakka, Indigenous languages, and English — each with three awards: Best Video, Creativity, and Popularity. Each class records and submits its own singing-and-dancing video to YouTube, then submits the video link through the platform.

Embedding videos via YouTube instead of hosting them directly on the site was a key decision made during system planning — it cuts bandwidth costs and makes the site load faster.

The online voting and anti-duplicate mechanism is the core of the popularity award. To keep voting fair, the system includes an anti-vote-rigging mechanism that limits each voter to one vote per entry, so the entry that genuinely wins the most audience love comes out on top.

The statistics feature lets organizers track each entry’s views and votes at any time, helping streamline preparation ahead of judging meetings.

Getting the visual tone right

Data structure design for four categories

Each of the four language categories has its own set of participating teams, judging criteria, and awards. The data structure needed to flexibly support multi-category display while keeping back-office management intuitive. The system runs on a Vue.js + Nuxt.js + Vuetify front end with a Node.js API and MariaDB, keeping category filtering and data queries fast and responsive.

The event runs once each school year, and the theme visuals, registration schedule, and contest rules can all change year to year.
